David Segal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Professions of the College of Health & Public Affairs with a joint appointment in the Department of Medical Education of the College of Medicine at the University of Central Florida. He teaches both on-campus and online courses, using collaborative learning with the students in both modes and between courses. Dr. Segal conducts research in two major areas: Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and HIV-1 neuropathogenesis. His SoTL research focuses on the delivery and assessment of student learning and decision-making skills, synchronous learning networks and distance education, collaborative learning, medical simulations, case-based pedagogy strategies, decision support systems, and infrastructures for future educational software. His HIV-1 research focuses on the identification of novel viral strain neuropathogenic signatures and their implication in vaccine development. He has published many articles in these and other areas. He is also active as a reviewer for several journals. Dr. Segal is also the Undergraduate Program Director for the Health Sciences Pre-clinical Allied Health degree which prepares students for graduate clinical study. He holds a PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of South Florida College of Medicine.
