Instructional Technology Coordinator (ITC) with the Department of Technology for Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Prior to becoming an ITC, I was a Computer Resource Specialist for eight years. In addition to my certification in elementary education, I am endorsed in gifted education and school administration. Teaching is second career for me–I graduated from Simmons College in Boston with a degree in communications. I worked many years as a journalist, photo-journalist and graphic designer. I am also a graduate of The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. My memberships include the Virginia Society for Technology in Education (VSTE) and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). In 2008, I became certified in the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS*T) and I am a Discovery Educator Network (DEN) STAR educator. Finally, I am a Second Lifer! I work in the project PARTSIP funded by EU. The goal of the project is to connect information professionals and academic stuff on a field of LIS in Czech Republuc. I also work as an librarian at university library. I am also supervisor of the virtual project VIAKISK (Virtual academic campus of library and information studies). I studied Information and Library Science at Masaryk Univerzity Brno (CZE) and my diploma thesis is about education within Virtual Worlds. Cynthia is a professor at Colorado Technical University (15 years) & Chair of Emerging Media. Prior work included 13 years as a software engineer, designing software for AF Space Command. Her team won the Grand Prize in the 2010 Federal Virtual World Challenge for the Mars Expedition, a space simulation. She is teaching her 22nd university class in Second Life. She mentored 400 middle school students at Ramapo in SL, and in 2005, completed a NSF grant for an intelligent tutor. Her research blends virtual worlds, emerging media, education, innovation, robotics & game design.
