2011 UNC TLT Conference Plenary

 

Cynthia Calongne (SL: Lyr Lobo)  is a professor with the Institute of Advanced Studies at Colorado Technical University and chairs two Emerging Media doctoral programs. Prior to joining the faculty in 1996, she was a software engineer for thirteen years, supporting AF Space Command and a project on Capitol Hill. With Air University''s Innovations and Integrations Division, her team received the Grand Prize in the 2010 Federal Virtual World Challenge for the Mars Expedition Strategy Challenge. Dr. Calongne is teaching her 21st university class using Second Life. As a volunteer, she mentored middle school students on the Ramapo virtual world project, and in 2005, completed a National Science Foundation grant for an intelligent tutor. In 1995, she developed a PC-based immersive virtual environment and a new user interface paradigm. Her research blends virtual worlds, emerging media, education, innovation, robotics and game design.
